I dont want to alarm anyone but, its
Tuesday. Thats two days from Thanksgiving.**SCREAMS** A Holiday we shouldn't really celebrate, but is one of my favorites. It's long been my favorite holiday as even though christmas is all good and fun, Thanksgiving is about food. So here are my five favorite thanksgiving traditions. Get your thinking cap on, I want to hear yours.
ASM's Thanksgiving traditions.
1. Wake up early and watch the Macy's day parade. I got this little tradition from my mom, who usually makes a bed on the floor thanksgiving morning and everyone would gather together and cuddle and watch the macy's parade. Though it's gotten worse over the years with commercialism. It is still a time i love, to cuddle with my boys and watch the balloons travel the streets of New york city.
2. Turkey. It may seem silly, but this day revolves around food. If I could sit and eat turkey for an entire day straight, I would. TURKEY. SOOOOO GOOOOD. So good in fact that i often make two turkeys on thanksgiving. One in the oven, and yes, a fried turkey. If you have never eaten a fried turkey, I am sad for you. Fried turkey is amazing. It may kill you, but one day a year is probably okay.
3. FOOTBALL. I like football. I like sitting and watching football. NOT THAT KIND OF FOOTBALL, This kind.
Okay, i pick we watch both.
4. Napping in the afternoon, when the tryptophan(thats the turkey stuff, not some new drug Im trying) kicks in and the belly is full of mashed potatoes and collard greens and turkey and cranberry sauce and yummy homemade biscuits ect...... Naptime. Its like, no matter what, everyone hits a coma around three PM. The children pass out as if the house is filling with natural gas. The bed is still on the floor from the parade, and its family naptime. Nothing better than a full belly and a good cuddle.
5. Family. It doesnt matter who decides to be a part of it this year, since my dad is a douchebag, and my mom is off gold digging, this thanksgiving is sure to be the best ever. So my foot is broken, MEH. I can still cook better than anyone in my family. It supposed to snow this year, so bundle up under those blankets, watch your favorite movie, eat all day long and cuddle.
So these are my holiday family traditions
what are some of yours?

Food, Family, and Football... won't be complete though since I'm leaving, but I'll be okay...
D
It used to be that everyone gathered at my grandfather's house for dinner, watch foodball and then nap. But since my daughter was due to be born on Nov 27, 2004, the tradition has turned to my mom coming to see us (first in NC, then in TN) for Thanksgiving and the rest of the family still going to my grandfather's house. One tradition that has been around since I first became a vegan in 1992 is the tofu pumpkin pie! That's everyone's favorite!!
Actually believe it or not, your day sounds a lot like mine! At least growing up at home it was always exactly like that. Now that I'm married it's a little different. His family has always done Thanksgiving at each other's homes (each person takes turns doing it at their home) but since I've been around, it's always been at one of his uncle's... so we get up in the morning and I watch the parade. My husband tries to sit through it with me but usually finds something else to do. Then we shower, get dressed and head an hour and a half up the road. We meet and greet with the family then stuff our faces with every bite of food we can manage. There's usually about 15 of us and the amount of food could feed 100 people I'm sure. Then we bust out the gallon sized freezer bags and start grabbing for leftovers (I just want turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes). Then, it's hit the road again to go home. Although I'd love to nap, it would be so nice but I can't. I'm driving. His folks and brother ride with us and so I can't nap.
But it's fun, it's different than what I'm used to (I would rather stay home in my pj's all day smelling the turkey cook) but it's what Thanksgiving is for us, now. Oh - and fried turkeys are my favorite! Well, it's a toss up between fried turkeys and smoked turkeys ... I like 'em all!!
Happy Thanksgiving December!!!!!!!
All of those except football here... and more food. Dinner in the middle of the day, and supper at night. Uhh... at least two days in a row.
ours always consists of eating as much as we can and then playing euchre and cad until 2 or 3 in the morning, then eating some more.
I agree with the first comment - Food, Family, and Football. When I was younger, I would wake up and watch the parade. Now I'm more likely to sleep through it.Â
Food and games. The whole entire family is together, so it's games games and games. I remember when I was younger I could eat a LOT of food. Now, i get one spoonful of everything , take one bite of everything and have to call it quits. I never get to eat all that yummy food anymore!
Fried turkey? I had no idea that something like this excists. You probably need huge kitchen equipment to make that.
Family is the biggest. But pumkin pie. I can't have Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie. In fact, my mom said she wasn't making one this year, so I told my brother to buy one. (I'd make one, but I am travelling there the night before.)
Oh, and I love fried turkey.
Crud, just remembered one more! How could I forget the Cowboy game??? Gotta have the Boys on Thanksgiving!
You hot the nail on the head. I would say all your traditions are what I have always done. I especially like the food part. Nothing like stuffing your face with Turkey. Mmmm
Cute pictures for this post. Thanksgiving to me is just another day to eat with the family and/or friends. Nothing out of the ordinary in all honestly, other than the existence of Turkey and dressing. :)
I really enjoy the parade. And the food, family time, we usually play board games or pool, and.....can't think of a 5th one.
I really like spending time with my family and eating a traditional Thanksgiving feast. We always watch the parade.
well your thanksgiving sounds way more awesome than mine. due to some family problems here and there..it's not as good as it use to be. but before my mom would always make a honey baked ham with glaze on the side, and the side dishes are whatever we come up with. i love green bean caseroles, but my mom doesn't. LOL! either way this year..were having roast beef....mmmm.....i'm hungry..bye!
Except for the football party, my traditions are the same as yours.
i don't have any Thanksgiving traditions... since I am Asian =P
but for the past 4 year.. i've been spending my Thanksgiving day at the boyfriend house with some of our friends, my little sister, and his family... we would all gather together and eats... but this year, since the boyfriend and I are no longer together.... I think I'm going to spend my Thanksgiving with a few of my friends and my family... probably eat, sleep and go camp for black friday just for the heck of it :D
well because of your so fun traditions... i might make up my own.. =P
About the same as yours except I never could get too into Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
Macy's day parade is definitely my favorite. Then there is food and family. I don't like watching football on TV, but if it isn't too cold I'll still go to my highschool's rival football game. Nice post!
Thanksgiving is actually my least favorite holiday of the year. I know, I know, it makes me the anti-christ. But let me explain.
First off, my family isn't very close. My mom had a fight with her family years ago and we don't talk to them and my dad's family is huge; his mom had three sisters and so all of their children and gradchildren gather together and most of them are trashy and loud and there's always some big blowout between people. It's like a PG-13 Jerry Springer episode.
Next, I'm a vegetarian, and a picky one at that. Last Turkey Day, I had a PB&J and some apple pie
So there goes the food and family portion. However, football is my favorite sport. And my city has a HUGE cross-town rivalry between teams so I go to the game every year (and the school that I graduated from loses every year) and it's a ton of fun. I wish I could go home and sleep after that instead of A) going to my uncle's house and play referee or B) go to my boyfriend's house and sit awkwardly around a table with him and his ancient parents.
So the best thing about Thanksgiving for me is going to be the following day where I can shop until I satisfy my acute oniomania.
Food, Family, Football, Macy's Parade, and Naps! I think you got it pegged
I love Thanksgiving, there is a meaning to it, we should be thankful for all that we have (and for me, I am thankful for God too), and I believe it's definitely a holiday to celebrate, but really, everyday should be Thanksgiving because we should all be thankful for what we have everyday of our lives and give thanks to those who deserve it.
first of all..ty for the invite..
2nd..we don't really have any traditions..except football and food.
and naps.
We go out of state to Ohio to visit my Mom's side of the family. We don't go have our Thanksgiving on the actual ay because we are traveling that day. Instead we have it on Saturday and celebrate both Christmas and Thanksgiving on the same day. :) We have ham, turkey, stuffing, various veggies, and a whole load of other good eats. Recently my uncle has taken to bringing deer sausage, jerky, etc with him. Not a big fan of the deer sausage.....
It is usually a mad house but that just adds to the fun of it all. :)
